Jaime Lakatos

Jaime’s work takes place in an imaginary world that is informed by the frightening reality of our changing environment. Blending ideas of genetic mutation, unchecked scientific tampering, mythology, and disposable culture. She re-envisions animals in the midst of a confused state of cross-species evolution. Their charred surfaces and trophied heads offer a glimpse into the possible outcomes of our accelerated environmental destruction, while their eerie familiarity gives us an odd sort of comfort. They evoke the feeling of an eccentric explorer’s private cabinet of curiosities — or a mad scientist’s failed experiments.
